Roof leak at NAS halts Meralco-Magnolia game

The game between Magnolia and Meralco in the PBA Season 50 Governors' Cup was paused for almost half an hour following a strong leak at the roof of the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Friday, Aug. 7.

The game between Magnolia and Meralco in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup was paused for almost half an hour following a strong leak at the roof of the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Friday, Aug. 7.

The leak, which was caused by the heavy downpour in Manila brought by the combined effects of the southwest monsoon and tropical depression Maymay, rendered the court unplayable due to safety issues.

The contest was stopped before the start of the fourth quarter with Magnolia ending the third with an 8-0 run to take a 71-70 lead.

The game resumed as soon as the leak stopped and the floor had dried.

It was not the first time that the PBA had problems in the Malate venue as heavy rains also caused flooding around the area last July 28, leaving some of the fans, players and coaches stranded.
