The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said the caskets were discovered in Sta. Cruz, Manila; Barangay 54 in Caloocan City; Barangay South Triangle and Barangay Sta. Teresita in Quezon City; and along Gil Puyat Avenue in Makati City.
Initial investigation showed that unidentified masked individuals left the caskets between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. after arriving aboard gray and white vans, according to the NCRPO.
“The Chief PNP has ordered a comprehensive probe to determine the facts and circumstances surrounding the incidents. NCRPO investigators are now on the ground conducting thorough backtracking and forward tracking of CCTV footages,” the NCRPO said.
Authorities said the abandoned caskets carried anti-CPP-NPA and anti-China messages.
In Quezon City, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) confirmed that two caskets with attached banners were found at Boy Scout Circle in Barangay South Triangle and Welcome Rotunda in Barangay Sta. Teresita.
Responding police officers secured the areas and inspected the caskets, which were found to contain only crumpled papers. The banners attached to the caskets bore the messages “CHINESE COMMUNIST PARTY (CCP) GREEDY! SALOT” and “GREEDY SALOT,” the QCPD said.
The QCPD has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to determine the motive, identify those responsible, and trace the vehicle used in the incidents.
The caskets have been taken into police custody for further examination, while authorities are coordinating with relevant establishments to determine the source of the recovered items.
Authorities have yet to identify those behind the incidents. They assured the public that the investigation remains ongoing and that appropriate charges will be filed against those responsible.
