Legarda confirms medical leave; tells Pinoys not to draw 'unwarranted conclusions'

Senator Loren Legarda on Friday, Aug. 7, confirmed that she took a medical leave earlier this week, amid allegations surrounding her recent travel.

Legarda said she filed a formal medical leave covering Aug. 3 to 5 in accordance with Senate rules.

“I confirm that I filed a formal medical leave with the Senate covering August 3 to 5, 2026, in accordance with Senate rules,” Legarda said in a statement.

She urged the public not to connect her travel to what she described as "false allegations".

“I ask the public not to draw unwarranted conclusions from my travel or link it to the recent false and baseless allegations, which undeservedly besmirch a reputation that I have built over decades of public service,” she said.

Legarda did not disclose the nature of her medical leave or provide details about the allegations or her recent travel.

The Office of the Ombudsman sought a preliminary investigation of  Legarda and her son, Batangas 1st district Rep. Leandro Leviste, for plunder and graft over alleged abuse of legislative and regulatory powers in securing solar energy contracts.
