Hotel bill dispute sparks police standoff in QC

A 55-year-old American guest got into a standoff with police officers after allegedly refusing to settle his hotel charges and causing a disturbance at a hotel in Barangay Ramon Magsaysay, Quezon City, on Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 5.
Police identified the suspect only as alias “James,” 55.
Hotel management sought help from barangay officials before calling the Project 6 Police Station (PS 15) after discovering that the suspect had allegedly failed to settle his hotel accommodation charges.
The suspect checked into the hotel on July 18 and occupied Room 371 on the third floor until Aug. 5.
Responding officers repeatedly knocked on the suspect's room, but he allegedly shouted profanities, disturbed other hotel guests, and repeatedly struck the door from inside.
Police officers, with the consent of hotel management, forcibly entered the room after the suspect continued refusing to come out.
Authorities said the suspect attempted to strike the officers with a wooden object, prompting them to restrain and arrest him at around 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 5.
He will face charges for alarms and scandals and resistance and disobedience to a person in authority or their agents before the Quezon City Prosecutor's Office.
