5.4-magnitude quake jolts Occidental Mindoro

A strong earthquake shook Occidental Mindoro and nearby provinces on Friday morning, Aug. 7, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The quake occurred at 10:38 a.m. and was traced 13 kilometers southwest of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro.
It had a shallow depth of 14 kilometers and was tectonic in origin.
Phivolcs later revised the earthquake's magnitude to 5.4 from the initial magnitude 5.8 released shortly after the event.
The earthquake was felt at Intensity V (strong) in Mamburao in Occidental Mindoro, and in Calapan City, Naujan, Puerto Galera, San Teodoro, and Victoria in Oriental Mindoro.
Intensity IV shaking (moderately strong) was experienced in Taal in Batangas, and Abra de Ilog and Sablayan in Oriental Mindoro.
Intensity III (weak) was reported in Quezon City in Metro Manila, Batangas City in Batangas, General Trias City in Cavite, and San Pedro City in Laguna.
Intensity II (slightly felt) was also reported in Parañaque City in Metro Manila, Santa Cruz in Laguna, and Guinayangan in Quezon.
Phivolcs said no damage had been reported but warned that aftershocks may occur.
