Why your hands may need more than hand cream
Aesop's new Solais Replenishing Hand Serum targets dark spots and uneven tone on an often-overlooked part of the body
We devote several steps to caring for our face but often take our hands for granted. They are washed throughout the day, exposed to sunlight, constantly at work, and rarely given the same attention.

Aesop puts the focus on hand care with Solais Replenishing Hand Serum, a lightweight treatment made to hydrate the skin and reduce the appearance of dark spots and uneven tone. Pronounced “Sol-ish,” its name means “of light” in Irish. It contains niacinamide to support the skin barrier, dandelion root to help address the effects of environmental stressors, and LHA, or lipo-hydroxy acid, which gently refines the skin.
Hand care has been part of Aesop since its early days. Founder Dennis Paphitis created an improvised mixture of vegetable and essential oils at Emeis, his hair salon in Melbourne, Australia. Today, the brand’s research and development team applies its facial skin care expertise to this hand serum.
“Hands are an extremely sensitive part of the body. Any tiny nuance in a product will be felt. So the texture is key,” says Samy Hamada, Aesop’s director of research and development.
This led the team to create a serum that is easily absorbed and can be used before hand balm without leaving the skin feeling too heavy or sticky. Lavender stem, bergamot rind, and neroli blossom oils give it a light floral, citrus, and herbaceous scent.
Solais also adds a treatment step to the usual hand care routine. Aesop recommends using it in the morning and evening after washing the hands. Massage one pump onto the back of each hand, then follow with one of the three Aromatique Hand Balms: Eleos for very dry or weather-worn hands, Reverence for rich and sustained hydration, or Resurrection for everyday use and a greaseless finish.
During the day, apply broad-spectrum sunscreen as the final step. The backs of the hands receive frequent sun exposure but are easily missed when sunscreen is applied.
Aesop Solais Replenishing Hand Serum comes in a 30ml bottle and is priced at ₱2,810. It is also available in two duos. The Solais and Eleos Duo pairs it with a nourishing hand balm in herbaceous, woody, and spicy notes, while the Solais and Resurrection Duo comes with a hydrating hand balm with a citrus, woody, and herbaceous scent. Each duo contains a 30ml serum and a 75ml hand balm and is priced at ₱4,520.
