QC bags 31st Apolinario Mabini Award for PWD inclusion

The Quezon City government has been named the Local Government Unit Awardee (City Category) at the 31st Apolinario Mabini Awards in recognition of its sustained efforts to promote the welfare, inclusion, and equal opportunities of persons with disabilities (PWDs).

Mayor Joy Belmonte received the award during the Aug. 3 ceremony at the Romualdez Hall of the House of Representatives, where the Philippine Foundation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled, Inc. (PFRD) honored local government units and institutions for their outstanding contributions to advancing the rights and inclusion of PWDs.
Following the awarding ceremony, Quezon City Persons with Disability Affairs Office head Debbie Dacanay formally presented the award to Belmonte on behalf of the city government.
The recognition highlights Quezon City's continuing implementation of programs that promote an inclusive, accessible, and caring community through its Persons with Disability Affairs Office.
Belmonte said the award affirms the city government's commitment to building "a more inclusive, accessible, and caring city for all."
Speaking before awardees, government officials, and PWD advocates, House Speaker Faustino "Bojie" G. Dy III thanked the PFRD for holding the 31st Apolinario Mabini Awards at the House of Representatives, saying it was an honor for the chamber to host a ceremony recognizing individuals and institutions that demonstrate an inclusive Philippines is possible.
Dy, who served as one of the award presenters alongside Congressional Spouses Foundation Inc. president and 31st Apolinario Mabini Awards chairperson Mary Ann Dy, said the recipients embody the legacy of Apolinario Mabini by proving that every Filipino can thrive when given equal opportunities and the support needed to succeed.
Also present during the ceremony were Arch. Jaime Silva and PFRD President Edgardo Garcia.
