PNP, China's Fujian police boost intelligence sharing vs transnational crime

The Philippine National Police (PNP) and China’s Fujian Provincial Public Security Department have agreed to deepen intelligence sharing and law enforcement cooperation against transnational criminal syndicates following a meeting between their top officials.
On Aug. 4, PNP chief General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. welcomed Wang Xizhang, executive director general of China’s Fujian Provincial Public Security Department, during a courtesy visit at the Star Officer’s Lounge in Camp BGen Rafael T. Crame.
In a statement on Thursday, Aug. 6, Nartatez said discussions focused on reaffirming the longstanding partnership between the two law enforcement agencies and expanding cooperation in combating transnational crime, cybercrime, kidnapping, and other shared security challenges.

He said the knowledge and best practices gained through the partnership would be shared with the PNP’s operating units to enhance their capabilities.
“We want every police office to be better equipped to investigate transnational crimes, respond to cyber threats, and strengthen intelligence gathering through internationally accepted practices,” he said.
Also, the PNP chief ordered all Police Regional Offices to strengthen intelligence monitoring of transnational criminal organizations in their respective areas of responsibility.
He likewise instructed concerned units to adopt international best practices from foreign law enforcement partners in training and operational planning to improve the PNP’s operational capability against cross-border crimes.
Nartatez said transnational criminals would find no safe haven as the PNP continues to strengthen its cooperation with international law enforcement partners.
“We will continue working closely with our international counterparts to track, investigate, and bring offenders to justice wherever they operate," he said.
