Pangasinan sustains P105.7-M damage to crops, infra due to bad weather

MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – The combined effects of tropical storm Maymay and the enhanced southwest monsoon have caused P105.7 million in damage to infrastructure and agriculture in Pangasinan as of Thursday morning.
Ron Maegan Equila, team leader of the Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) emergency operations center, said the cost of damage to infrastructure amounted to over P105.5 million based on the initial report of the Provincial Engineering Office.
"These are mostly on provincial roads and road dikes," she said.
The partial cost of damage to palay crops, on the other hand, amounted to P205,350 in Rosales, Pangasinan, according to Equila.
She said some of the evacuees have returned home and only one family in Agno and 21 in Bani remained in evacuation centers as of Thursday morning's situational report.
Flooding in some barangays have subsided, including Lingayen, where the number of flooded barangays is now down to five from 16.
A total of 6,516 families or 23, 543 individuals in 40 barangays from five municipalities and one city of the province are reportedly affected by the effects of the weather disturbances.
Equila also said a cadaver of a male person was recovered in a river in Barangay Linmansangan, Alaminos City on Aug. 5, and they are waiting for the Department of the Interior and Local Government to confirm whether the incident is storm-related. (PNA)
