Napocor energizes ₱154-million transmission line, substation in Marinduque

State-run National Power Corp. (Napocor) expanded electricity infrastructure in remote island provinces, energizing a new ₱154 million transmission project in Marinduque and deploying additional generation capacity to Eastern Samar to stabilize fragile off-grid power supplies.
In a statement on Thursday, Aug. 6, Napocor said it has completed the construction and switch-on of the Mogpog-to-Buenavista 69-kilovolt transmission line along with a five-megavolt-ampere substation in Marinduque.
The project is designed to improve voltage stability, ensure continuous electricity delivery, and minimize power interruptions during routine line maintenance activities.
“We at Napocor shall continue pursuing projects that will ensure dependable and reliable power delivery that minimizes losses and maximizes benefits for our consumers,” Jericho B. Nograles, Napocor president and chief executive officer said.
“While the challenge of electrifying off-grid communities remains, we are resolute in our commitment to a sustainable approach of developing one community at a time, one island at a time,” he added,
Separately, the agency expanded generation capacity in Eastern Samar to handle rising demand and meet N-1 contingency benchmarks—a standard requiring grid systems to maintain operational stability even if a primary component fails.
In Homonhon Island within Guiuan, Napocor brought two 15-kilovolt-ampere single-phase generator sets into commercial service at the Habag diesel power plant.
The machinery was transferred from Barangays San Jose and Dayagan in Masbate after those areas were successfully connected to the main grid operated by Masbate Electric Cooperative Inc. The Habag facility serves 95 household connections, recording a peak demand of 13 kilowatts against a total rated capacity of 44 kilowatts.
The redeployments form part of Napocor’s fleet rationalization initiative, which shifts idle generation assets from newly grid-connected locations to unserved or underserved island outposts. Under the same program, the agency relocated a 15-kilovolt-ampere generator from Bohol’s Bilangbilangan facility to Inapulangan, while dispatching a 20-kilowatt unit from Ubay to Cagusuan and a 163-kilowatt unit from Capul to Casuguran.
To prevent rotational rolling blackouts, Napocor’s regional operations division partnered with Eastern Samar Electric Cooperative to split the local single-phase distribution system into two independent feeders, each powered by a dedicated generator.
The local electric cooperative agreed to donate a 60-kilovolt-ampere unit to Inapulangan and upgrade the local power lines to a three-phase configuration, allowing existing single-phase generators to be shifted to Cagusuan to absorb future demand expansion. (Gabriell Christel Galang)
