The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed on Thursday, Aug. 6, that it has received the United States government's request for the extradition of detained religious leader Apollo Quiboloy and has endorsed the matter to the Department of Justice (DOJ).

In a brief statement, the DFA said the request has already been transmitted to the DOJ, the agency responsible for handling extradition proceedings under Philippine law.

"The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirms it has received the United States Government's request for the extradition of Apollo Quiboloy," the department said. "The DFA has endorsed the request to the Department of Justice," it added.

The DFA did not provide additional details regarding the contents of the request or the timeline for the extradition process.

Under Philippine procedures, extradition requests received through diplomatic channels are endorsed by the DFA to the DOJ, which evaluates the request and determines the appropriate legal steps in accordance with the country's extradition treaty obligations and domestic laws.
