DepEd probes teacher's threat to colleagues in Iloilo

ILOILO CITY – The Department of Education (DepEd) is investigating the threat issued by a teacher to colleagues that resulted in the suspension of classes in Dumangas town, Iloilo province, on Wednesday, Aug. 5.

“Sa buwang ito, may patay na guro sa Dumangas National High School! Principal, assistant principal o guro mismo!!! Mark my words!!!!” said the Facebook post of an unnamed teacher.

(This month, a teacher of Dumangas National High School will die! Principal, assistant principal, or teacher!!! Mark my words!!!!)

“Lahat kayo damay sa galit ko,” the teacher said in another Facebook post.

(All of you will be dragged into this because I’m angry)

The series of posts caused panic and fear among students, faculty, staff, and parents.

The DepEd-Division of Iloilo is investigating the teacher who has apologized.

“The teacher was told to face the consequences of his actions,” said Leonil Salvilla, DepEd-Division of Iloilo spokesperson, said.

Savilla said that the teacher may face administrative penalties as his actions affected the entire school.

DepEd-Division of Iloilo is awaiting the written explanation of the teacher.

The teacher was allegedly angry at school management for allowing a student to sell chicken pastil inside school premises.

The teacher also allegedly became angry and saw the student as a business competitor since the teacher also sells products at the school canteen.

The student who sold chicken pastil is reportedly from a poor family and reportedly selling to earn money for school and necessary needs.

The Dumangas Municipal Police Station said there was no actual threat and assured that people are safe.
