LA TRINIDAD, Benguet – Two cooks were killed and another survived a landslide that buried a restaurant due to heavy rains from tropical cyclone Maymay in Barangay Shilan here on Thursday morning, Aug. 6.
The landslide occurred at around 8 a.m. Rescuers conducted retrieval operations and first recovered a 55-year-old male cook around 10 a.m. who was taken to the Benguet General Hospital here where he is recuperating.
A 66-year-old male cook and a 31-year-old male cook were retrieved one after the other and were also taken to the hospital where they were declared dead.
Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works and Highways-Cordillera said that Kennon Road remain closed to all vehicles as of 11 a.m. Thursday due to heavy rain.
Motorists were advised to take alternate routes to Baguio City – Marcos Highway, Naguillian Road, and Asin-Nangalisan-San Pascual-La Union Boundary Road.
