Welder arrested in Pasay gun scare

A 25‑year‑old welder was arrested by operatives of the Pasay City Police’s Malibay Substation after allegedly causing a public disturbance by brandishing an unlicensed firearm and challenging passersby to a fight on Tuesday, Aug. 4.

Pasay City Police chief Col. Joselito De Sesto identified the suspect only as Anwar, a resident of Subic, Zambales. He was arrested at around 12:10 a.m. along Kapisanan Street in Barangay 162, Malibay, Pasay City.

According to De Sesto, the arrest stemmed from a report by a concerned citizen about a man openly carrying a firearm and provoking passersby into a fight. Responding operatives from the Malibay Substation immediately proceeded to the area.

Upon arrival, officers located the suspect and, through peaceful negotiation and tactical warnings, convinced him to surrender the firearm and submit to police custody.

Recovered from the suspect was a .38‑caliber revolver loaded with two live rounds of ammunition.

Verification showed that the firearm was unlicensed, as the suspect failed to present any valid permit or legal document authorizing him to possess or carry the weapon.

The suspect is now detained at the Pasay City Police custodial facility and faces charges for violation of Article 155 (Alarms and Scandals) of the Revised Penal Code and Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
