The country’s rice inventory declined by 10 percent in July, equivalent to a reduction of around 280,000 metric tons (MT), as supplies fell across major rice holders, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
In its latest report, the PSA said total rice stocks in July declined to 2.51 million MT from 2.79 million MT recorded in the same month last year.
However, rice inventory for the month rose by 6.8 percent from 2.35 million MT in the previous month.
PSA data showed that 47.7 percent of the July rice stocks were held by households, 39 percent by the commercial sector, and 13.3 percent by the National Food Authority’s (NFA) depositories.
The PSA said rice stocks of the commercial sector declined by nearly 11 percent to 1.20 million MT in July from 1.34 million MT in the same month in 2025.
Meanwhile, rice inventory in NFA warehouses fell at a faster pace of 21.4 percent to 333,030 MT from 423,660 MT in the previous year.
Household rice stocks posted the smallest annual decline, falling by 4.3 percent to 978,910 MT from 1.02 million MT a year ago.
“In comparison to the June 2026 rice stocks levels, increment was noted from the commercial sector by 27.5 percent. Meanwhile, rice stocks inventory decreased from the households by 7.9 percent and from the NFA depositories by 4.3 percent,” the PSA said.
The PSA also reported that the country’s corn inventory expanded by 34 percent to 836,220 MT in July from 624,400 MT in the same month last year. Month-on-month, the latest inventory level dropped by seven percent from 900,250 MT in June.
More than 88 percent of the month's corn inventory were from the commercial sector, while the remaining 11.8 percent were from the households, according to the PSA.
Corn stocks in the commercial sector grew by 35.7 percent to 737,130 MT in July from last year’s 543,190 MT. Household corn stocks reached 99,090 MT in the month, up by 22 percent from 81,210 MT.
“Relative to the inventory level in June 2026, the volume of corn stocks from the households registered a month-on-month decrease of 10.0 percent and from the commercial sector by 6.7 percent,” the PSA said.
