Palace suspends classes, government work in NCR, other Luzon provinces on Aug 6

Classes at all levels and work in government offices in the National Capital Region (NCR) and other provinces in Luzon are suspended on Thursday, Aug. 6, due to Tropical Storm Maymay, Malacañang announced. 
The suspension of classes and government work covers the NCR and the provinces of Ilocos Sur, La Union, Benguet, Pangasinan, Abra, Zambales, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Ilocos Norte, Apayao, Nueva Vizcaya, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna and Occidental Mindoro.
It was declared through Memorandum Circular No. 122 signed by Executive Secretary Ralph Recto on Wednesday, Aug. 5.
According to Malacañang the suspension came after the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council recommended it due to continued heavy rainfall brought by Tropical Storm Maymay and the Southwest Monsoon.
However, agencies involved in delivering basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or performing other vital services were directed to continue their operations and render necessary services.
Malacañang said localized cancellation or suspension of classes or work in government offices in other areas may be implemented by their respective local chief executives.
The suspension of work for private companies and offices, on the other hand, is left to the discretion of their respective heads.
