More than 41,000 residents affected by 'Luis,' 'Maymay,' 'habagat'

The combined impact of tropical cyclones “Luis” and “Maymay,” as well as the enhanced southwest monsoon (habagat) have affected more than 41,000 individuals while around 5,800 persons were displaced as heavy rains continued to disrupt communities in six regions, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) reported on Wednesday, Aug. 5.
A report from the OCD said a total of 12,432 families or 41,979 individuals felt the impact of the three weather disturbances in Ilocos (Region 1), Cagayan Valley (Region 2), Central Luzon (Region 3), Bicol (Region 5), Zamboanga Peninsula (Region 9), and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

The OCD has yet to report any deaths, injuries or missing persons linked to the weather disturbances.
It also has not recorded any damage to government infrastructure while one house was reported partially damaged.
The government has so far extended P1,221,039 worth of assistance to the affected families.
Habagat continued to bring intermittent rains over large parts of Luzon and some areas in the Visayas, prompting evacuations in flood-prone communities.
Earlier, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) placed its regional disaster response offices on heightened alert to ensure that relief goods, rescue assets and emergency responders could be mobilized immediately in affected areas.
“Our priority is to ensure that all affected families receive the assistance they need while keeping communities safe from further risks posed by continuous rains,” the OCD said.
The agency added that “regional offices remain in close coordination with local government units to monitor the situation, support evacuation efforts, and facilitate the immediate delivery of humanitarian assistance.”
