Jonvic eyes human trafficking case vs ex-solon over foiled 'honeytrap' scheme

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla is eyeing a case of human trafficking against former congressman Jacinto “Jing” Paras over an alleged plot to frame several Cabinet officials and ranking government officials in the so-called “honeytrap” scheme.

Human trafficking is a non-bailable offense and Remulla is planning to pursue the case over the use of some women to make affidavits claiming that they were forced to use illegal drugs and have sexual encounters with some Cabinet officials.

“It seems that he was the one behind because of his connection with the alleged handler of the women. And it was the handler who disclosed the plan and revealed some names,” said Remulla when asked about the honeytrap scheme.

“So Jing Paras is the person of interest, we are investigating him and we are considering filing charges of human trafficking against him,” he stressed.

The plan was to get at least five women who would be paid to claim that they were drugged and had sexual encounters with Cabinet officials. The plan was allegedly foiled after the arrest of the supposed handler of the women.

The alleged main plan was to frame Executive Secretary Ralph Recto but other personalities are also being targeted like Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon, Remulla and his brother, Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla.

Batangas Rep Leandro Leviste was tagged as among the brains behind the honeytrap scheme, an allegation that he denied.

Asked to comment on the involvement of Leviste, Remulla said it was Paras who mentioned the former’s name to the handler of the women.

“I would like to think that Congressman Legarda is a better person but to get to the bottom of it, we need to know the statement of former congressman Jing Paras,” said Remulla.
