Cops recover gun flashed by minor in video

CEBU CITY – Police recovered a firearm that a minor in Liloan, northern Cebu brandished through a video he shared in a class group chat.
The gun was retrieved after the Liloan Municipal Police Station conducted what it described as a child-sensitive investigation in close coordination with the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.
Police said the principal of Liloan National High School reported to the station's Women and Children Protection Desk that a minor sent a video showing a firearm and other deadly weapons in a group chat.
During the interview, the minor voluntarily provided information regarding the firearm seen in the video. Police tracked down the location where the firearm and other deadly weapons were kept.
Recovered during the operation were a snub-nose revolver, five live bullets, and brass knuckles with an improvised knife.
Police have coordination with the Firearms and Explosives Office to verify the ownership and registration status of the firearm.
Further investigation is being conducted to determine the criminal liability of all persons who may have violated Republic Act No. 10591, Presidential Decree No. 9, and other applicable laws, police said.
Our immediate priority was to ensure that the firearm was safely recovered and that any threat to the community was addressed. At the same time, we recognize that children who come into conflict with the law deserve interventions that promote accountability, guidance, and rehabilitation, said Police Col. Abubakar Mangelen Jr., chief of the Cebu Provincial Police Office.
