Celebrities congratulate Alex Eala after historic WTA title victory

Filipino celebrities joined millions of fans in celebrating Alex Eala's historic triumph at the 2026 Mubadala DC Open, with many taking to social media to congratulate the young tennis star on capturing the first WTA singles title of her career.

Fresh off her landmark victory in Washington, DC, the 21-year-old athlete shared a photo on Instagram holding her maiden WTA singles trophy, simply captioning it: "Me and my first."

The post quickly drew messages of support from well-known personalities across the entertainment industry, who praised Eala for making history and bringing pride to the Philippines.

Broadcast journalist Karen Davila was among the first to celebrate the achievement.

"CONGRATULATIONS @alex.eala! Tears of joy! ???? Hard earned victory!!!! BRAVO ALEX!"

Television host Bianca Gonzalez also commended the tennis star for her remarkable feat.

"YOU ARE INCREDIBLE ❤️❤️❤️ Maraming salamat Alex!!!!"

Meanwhile, television personality Iya Villania expressed her admiration for the Filipina athlete, writing:

"You make us soooo proud!!! ???????????? congratulations, Alex!!!"

Eala made history after rallying from a set down to defeat world No. 3 Jessica Pegula of the United States, 4-6, 6-4, 6-0, in the championship match to claim the 2026 Mubadala DC Open title.

The victory made her the first Filipino tennis player to win a WTA Tour singles title, another milestone in what has already become a breakthrough season for the young athlete.

Following the match, Eala reflected on the overwhelming support she received from family, friends, and Filipino fans throughout her campaign.

"Before the final yesterday, I got so many sweet messages from my family and my friends who are on tour, wherever else in the world. I thought to myself, I feel so much love," she said during her post-match interview.

She added that the encouragement gave her confidence entering the championship match.

"So standing here in the middle of all this love, my first chance at a title, knowing that it won't be my last... whatever would have happened after this match, it would have already been a win for me."

Eala also took time to acknowledge the Filipino community in Washington, D.C., and supporters watching from home and around the world.

"Thank you to all my supporters, especially the Filipino community here in DC and back home, and wherever you are in the world... I feel all the love. Maraming, maraming salamat mga kababayan," she said.

With congratulatory messages continuing to pour in from fellow Filipinos and public figures alike, Eala's historic victory has become a moment of national pride, inspiring hopes for even greater achievements on the international tennis stage.
