Over P700 M worth of counterfeit, smuggled footwear products seized in Cavite raid

Operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) seized around P700 million worth of counterfeit products, which are all believed to have bene smuggled into the country, in a raid on a warehouse in Cavite.
CIDG director Maj. Gen. Robert Morico II said the counterfeit products included popular sports footwear products like Adidas, On Cloud, New Balance, ASICS, Crocs, Nike, Puma, Converse, Skechers, and Louis Vuitton.
He said the operation stemmed from a confirmed intelligence report about smuggled products being stored in a warehouse in Barangay Alapan II-A, Imus City.
CIDG operatives then coordinated with the Bureau of Customs, which in turn, issued a Letter Order and Mission Order authorizing the joint agencies to inspect, visit, search, and seize goods that violate the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
The raid was conducted at around 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 3.
“Smuggled footwear reduces domestic business taxes, hurts local shoe makers, and drains public funds,” said Morico.
He said the CIDG has been in constant coordination with the BOC to prevent and suppress smuggling and other customs fraud.
“The CIDG assures the public that it is resolute in enforcing customs and tariff law in full support to the government's war against smuggling and economic sabotage across the country,” said Morico.
He also urged the public to report all suspicious warehouses and illegal activities in their localities.
