'Karangalan ka ng buong Pilipinas!': OVP hails Alex Eala's historic Mubadala DC Open triumph

Describing her achievement as a source of national pride and an inspiration to aspiring Filipino athletes, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) on Tuesday, Aug. 4, congratulated Filipino tennis star Alex Eala for her historic victory at the Mubadala DC Open 2026.
In a Facebook post, the OVP extended its heartfelt congratulations to Eala following her triumph, which made her the first Filipina to win a WTA 500 singles title and the first Filipino to capture a WTA Tour championship.
In a Facebook post, the OVP praised Eala for her landmark achievement.
“Bilang unang Filipina na nagwagi ng WTA 500 singles crown at unang Pilipinong naging kampeon sa WTA Tour, ipinakita mo sa buong mundo ang husay, sipag, at determinasyon ng atletang Pilipino (As the first Filipina to win a WTA 500 singles crown and the first Filipino to become a WTA Tour champion, you have shown the world the talent, hard work, and determination of Filipino athletes),” the OVP said.
“Isa kang karangalan at inspirasyon para sa mga kabataang nangangarap maging kampeon (You are an honor and an inspiration to young people who dream of becoming champions),” it added.
The OVP said Eala's achievement reflects the excellence, perseverance, and determination of Filipino athletes on the international stage while inspiring young Filipinos to pursue their dreams in sports.
“Ipinagmamalaki ka namin. Karangalan ka ng buong Pilipinas! (We are proud of you. You are the pride of the entire Philippines!),” the OVP added.
Eala's victory at the Mubadala DC Open marked another milestone in Philippine sports history, further cementing her status as one of the country's most accomplished tennis players.
