Alpha Drive One's Sanghyeon to take hiatus after vocal cord polyp diagnosis

Sanghyeon, a member of the K-pop boy group Alpha Drive One, will undergo surgery after being diagnosed with a vocal cord polyp, his agency WakeOne announced.

WakeOne said Sanghyeon sought medical attention after experiencing discomfort in his throat, and examinations revealed the condition. He is scheduled to undergo surgery to remove the vocal cord polyp on Aug. 5.

Following the procedure, the agency said Sanghyeon will be able to resume daily activities and light physical activity that do not place excessive strain on his body. However, medical professionals have advised him to rest his voice for about three weeks to support his recovery.

As a result, Sanghyeon will temporarily step away from official activities from Aug. 5 to 22. His return will depend on his recovery progress, medical advice and his own condition.

“Voice-related activities like speaking and singing will resume gradually as he recovers, so some limitations may remain for the time being. We kindly ask for your understanding,” WakeOne said.

The agency assured fans that Sanghyeon’s health and recovery remain the priority, adding that further updates on his activities will be provided when available.

Vocal cord polyps are growths that can develop on the vocal cords and are often associated with vocal strain, overuse or misuse of the voice. Singers and professional voice users are among those who may be at risk due to repeated vocal demands.

Alpha Drive One is a K-pop group under WakeOne. The group’s activities will continue while Sanghyeon focuses on his recovery.
