The Mubadala DC Open final between Alex Eala and Jessica Pegula has been rescheduled to 12 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4 (Philippine time) after intermittent rain caused lengthy delays to the tournament schedule.
Tournament organizers announced the postponement on social media on Monday morning, Aug. 3 (Philippine time) after the championship match was suspended for more than five hours. Pegula held a 6-4, 1-2 lead when play was halted.
The match itself had already been delayed by nearly three hours before it finally got underway.
Eala is gunning for a breakthrough title in the WTA 500 tournament and is playing her second career final since the WTA 250 Eastbourne last year.
It is also the second time that she is facing world No. 3 Pegula after the two figured in the semifinal of the Miami Open last year where the American won in three sets.
