PH women's lacrosse team finishes 10th; USA completes five-peat

The Philippine women’s lacrosse team settled for 10th place after absorbing a 9-10 overtime loss to Argentina in the 2026 World Lacrosse Women's Championship at the Oi Hockey Stadium in Tokyo, Japan over the weekend.
Gaining momentum from their 12-4 victory over Wales, the Nationals tried to assert their dominance anew but saw themselves in a tight encounter against the Argentines.
The Philippines, sparked by Steph Lazo’s offensive rally, dug deep in the extended period but it was Argentina that delivered the coup de grace after Olivia Duarte won the opening draw which eventually led to Emilia DiLiberto’s fourth goal to close out their thrilling showdown.
Lazo starred for the Filipina bets with three goals, while Caroline Roxas, Ria Lagdameo, Abby Manalang, Kalena Johnson, and Annika Bennett contributed one goal each. Abigail Beattie also shone with five saves.
On the other hand, Diliberto stood out with four goals, while Gretta White and Duarte found the net twice for the South American country.
Although Argentina secured ninth place, the Philippines still turned heads in its first-ever appearance at the World Championship after finishing 10th overall.
Head coach Shannon Nee believes it showcased the Filipinas' capability to compete on the global stage.
“With close matches against the host country Japan and the overtime loss to Argentina, we have just tapped into what this team can accomplish,” said Nee. “Our young ones played fearlessly and our veterans showed leadership in difficult moments.”
The Philippines posted a 2-3 win-loss record in the group stage and classification round.
It became the second-best Asian team in the quadrennial meet just behind 7th Japan (3-3) and ahead of 15th Chinese Taipei (1-4).
Up next for the locals is the APLU Sixes Championship in Queensland, Australia this October.
Meanwhile, the United States flexed its might and dismantled Canada, 16-4, in their all-North Americans finals to complete a perfect campaign en route to its fifth straight championship.
