PH booters face unbeaten Thais in crucial match

The Philippine men's national football team makes its home stand when it faces unbeaten Thailand in the 2026 ASEAN Championship (Hyundai Cup) at the New Clark City Stadium in Capas, Tarlac Tuesday, Aug. 4.
Following their 4-1 victory over Laos, the Nationals (1-1) look forward to maintaining their form against the Thais (2-0) in their Group B clash set at 9 p.m., with a victory for the Filipinos boosting their chances of clinching a semis berth in the biennial meet.
The Philippines, which currently sits at fourth spot behind seven-time champion Thailand and Malaysia (2-1), eyes the crucial win with only the top two squads advancing to the semis
It is tied with Myanmar in terms of record as both squads sport a similar 1-1 slate worth three points.
A loss could be fatal for the Carles Cuadrat-mentored crew which previously reached the semis of the regional joust.
For Cuadrat, their recent triumph against Laos gave the Filipino booters a sort of a morale boost after failing to convert several opportunities in their opening game loss to Myanmar.
“Most importantly, I am happy that we changed our fortunes,” said Cuadrat. “Until this match, we had been very unfortunate during several important moments.
“The victory is a good reward for the squad, and we must now focus on our next match,” he added.
Cole Mrowka, last game’s Player of the Match, spearheads the Nationals anew with Jarvey Gayoso, John Lucero, and Daisuke Sato providing support.
