OVP marks fourth year of Libreng Sakay, says program served 3.54 million commuters

The Office of the Vice President (OVP) on Monday, Aug. 3, marked the fourth anniversary of its Libreng Sakay Program, highlighting that the initiative has provided free transportation to more than 3.54 million commuters nationwide since its launch in 2022.
In a statement, the OVP said the milestone underscores its ongoing efforts to provide accessible and reliable transportation while helping ease commuting costs for Filipino workers, students, and other daily passengers.
For the OVP, the Libreng Sakay anniversary is “both a celebration of the program's fourth year and a recognition of the continued trust and support of the commuting public, whose patronage has helped sustain the initiative as a reliable and responsive public service program.”
OVP distributes 5,000 commemorative tokens
To commemorate the program's fourth anniversary, the OVP distributed 5,000 commemorative Libreng Sakay tokens to passengers riding selected buses in Metro Manila, Naic in Cavite, Bacolod, Tacloban, Metro Cebu, and Metro Davao.
The agency said the anniversary celebration recognizes both the program's sustained operations over the past four years and the continued support of commuters who have benefited from the initiative.
More than 3.54 million commuters served
According to the OVP, the Libreng Sakay Program had served more than 3.54 million commuters nationwide as of June 30, 2026.
The office described Libreng Sakay as one of its flagship public service initiatives, aimed at helping reduce transportation costs for Filipinos who rely on public transportation for work, school, and other daily activities.
OVP cites continued public support
The OVP said the fourth anniversary also acknowledges the trust and support shown by the commuting public, which it said has helped sustain the program as a responsive public service initiative.
The office reaffirmed its commitment to bringing government services closer to the people through programs that address the daily needs of Filipinos.
