DSWD activates response teams due to 'Luis'

DSWD said it has over 4 million family food packs prepositioned nationwide as of 6 a.m. Sunday for distribution to affected communities, as needed.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Sunday, Aug. 2, activated its quick response teams as Tropical Depression Luis is expected to bring rains over parts of Luzon.

DSWD Assistant Secretary and spokesperson Irene Dumlao said the agency's field offices have been directed to monitor the situation and coordinate with local government units (LGUs) in areas that may be affected by the weather disturbance.

The department said it has over 4 million family food packs prepositioned nationwide as of 6 a.m. Sunday for distribution to affected communities, as needed.

The DSWD also has stocks of non-food relief items, including sleeping kits, hygiene kits, and kitchen kits, for families who may be displaced and brought to evacuation centers.

“Our goal is to ensure that assistance will not be delayed when the effects of the storm are felt,” Dumlao said.

The DSWD reminded the public to coordinate with their respective LGUs for safety protocols and announcements as Luis affects the country.

It added that its field offices are monitoring other weather disturbances that may affect the country.
