Alex Eala reached a new career-high of No. 24 in the WTA live rankings following her impressive run at the ongoing Mubadala DC Open in Washington, D.C.
The 21-year-old continued her breakthrough season by securing a place in her first-ever WTA 500 final after stunning former world No. 1 and four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka, 6-4, 6-2, in the semifinal on Sunday, Aug. 2 (Philippine time).
Her latest feat pushed her one notch higher from No. 25.
Eala entered tournament -- her first event in the North American hard court swing -- ranked No. 28.
She can potentially break into the Top 20 if she wins her finals match against world No. 3 Jessica Pegula scheduled at midnight of Aug. 3 (Philippine time).
