4 distressed Filipino seafarers repatriated from Iran—DFA

Four Filipino seafarers have been repatriated from Iran after seeking the government's help over their difficult situation under the employment of an Iranian company, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.
All four Filipinos arrived in the country on July 29, the DFA said on Friday, July 31.
According to the DFA, the seafarers had been working in gas fields off the coasts of Bushehr and Kish Island. They sought the Philippine embassy's assistance in facilitating their repatriation due to the danger posed by the military conflict near their workplace in Iran's southern coastal areas.
"The Philippine Embassy in Tehran facilitated the safe disembarkation and repatriation of four Filipino seafarers, who had been working in gas fields off the coast of Bushehr and Kish Island, effectively putting them out of harm’s way from the on-going war in Iran," the DFA said.
"The distressed Filseafarers raised the matter of their difficult situation under the employment of an Iranian company, including the danger to their physical safety due to the military conflict near their place of work in Iran’s southern coastal areas," the department added.
The Philippine Embassy then brought the matter to the attention of concerned Iranian authorities and arranged for their repatriation in coordination with the Local Manning Agency (LMA), in accordance with the Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) regulations of the DFA.
The Filipino seafarers disembarked on July 14 and sought temporary shelter at a rest house in Bushehr before they travelled by land from Bushehr to Shiraz on July 27, from where they boarded a domestic flight to Tehran arranged by the Embassy and the LMA.
They flew to Manila from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKIA).
The DFA stressed that the case "illustrates the perils that Filseafarers constantly encounter when being deployed to this region."
