The low-pressure area (LPA) east of Infanta, Quezon intensified into Tropical Depression Luis on Saturday night, Aug. 1, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported.
In a tropical cyclone update, the agency stated that the weather disturbance developed into Tropical Depression Luis at 8 p.m.
“At 8:00 PM today (01 August 2026), the Low Pressure Area (LPA 07f) located east of Infanta, Quezon has developed into Tropical Depression LUIS,” it said.
Per PAGASA, it will begin issuing Tropical Cyclone Bulletins for Luis starting at 11 p.m.
The state weather bureau advised the public to continue monitoring official updates on “Luis.”
Earlier this day, PAGASA said the LPA was unlikely to develop into a tropical cyclone within 24 hours.
However, it intensified more quickly than previously anticipated and reached tropical depression status Saturday night.
