Woman fined for stalking Hwang Jung-min releases statement on alleged relationship

The woman who was fined by a South Korean court for stalking actor Hwang Jung-min has released a lengthy statement claiming they had a personal and business relationship before their falling out.

In a social media post on July 29, she shared audio recordings and detailed what she described as the nature of her relationship with the actor.

According to the woman, she first knew Hwang Jung-min as a fan before the actor allegedly contacted her in August 2023. She claimed he later asked her to stop interacting with him as a fan and instead become "a business partner and acquaintance."

She alleged that they communicated frequently for several months through phone calls and messages.

The woman also claimed Hwang discussed launching a soju brand using his name and that, as a design professional, she carried out market research, concept planning and trademark research for the project.

She further alleged that Hwang encouraged her to write novels and essays, saying she completed about 30 works, some of which contained sexual content that she claimed was written at his request.

She alleged that the relationship left her emotionally and financially harmed, describing her experience as "emotional and sexual exploitation" as well as "labor exploitation" because she was allegedly never compensated for her work.

According to the woman, she has filed a 200 million won (about $139,000) damages lawsuit against Hwang in connection with the alleged business proposal.

Earlier, a court issued a summary order fining her three million won (about $2,084) after Hwang filed a stalking complaint against her. She said she has appealed the ruling and requested a formal trial.

In an interview with Korean media, the woman said she and Hwang met four times but denied that they had sexual intercourse.

She maintained that she only wants a direct explanation from the actor, saying the nature of their relationship should not be reduced to the stalking case.

Hwang Jung-min has not publicly responded to the woman's latest allegations.
