Mitsubishi joins EVIS through ₱7-billion investment

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation will participate in the government’s Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy through a planned ₱7-billion investment in the local production of hybrid electric vehicles.
The investment, which will come from parent company Mitsubishi Motors Corporation, follows the issuance of the Executive Order establishing the Electric Vehicle Incentive Strategy, or EVIS.
The program is intended to encourage vehicle electrification, support automotive manufacturing, and strengthen the local industry as the Philippines moves toward more sustainable forms of transportation.

Backed by Mitsubishi Motors Corporation’s ₱7-billion investment commitment, we are ready to support the government’s vision through the local production of hybrid electric vehicles, further enhancing the country’s manufacturing capabilities and competitiveness,” said Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation Chairman Noriaki Hirakata.
The company has yet to announce which hybrid models will be produced in the Philippines or when local assembly will begin.
Mitsubishi said the planned production program will draw from the company’s experience in developing electrified vehicles for different markets. Its hybrid and plug-in hybrid technologies have been used across several models in its global portfolio.
Local production of hybrid vehicles is expected to add to the capabilities of Mitsubishi’s manufacturing operations in the country. It could also create opportunities for local parts suppliers, logistics providers, dealers, and other businesses supporting the automotive sector.
“Through this investment, we look forward to creating greater value for the Philippine economy, supporting the country’s sustainability objectives, generating opportunities across the automotive ecosystem, and contributing to the continued growth of local vehicle manufacturing,” Hirakata added.
Mitsubishi Motors Philippines began operating in the country in 1963 and is the longest-running automotive company in the Philippine market.
The company operates a 23-hectare manufacturing facility in Sta. Rosa, Laguna, with an annual production capacity of 50,000 vehicles. The plant currently produces the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 subcompact sedan and the L300 light commercial vehicle.
The planned addition of hybrid vehicle production would expand the plant’s output beyond its current gasoline- and diesel-powered models. It would also mark Mitsubishi’s next major local manufacturing program as the government introduces new policies supporting electrified vehicles.
Mitsubishi said it will continue working with the government, industry groups, suppliers, and local communities as it prepares for the hybrid production program and the implementation of the EVIS incentives.
