Megawide's mega-terminal closes in on 300 million passengers after strong first half

The Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) is on its way to accommodating up to 300 million passengers as early as this year, after welcoming more than 32 million travelers during the first six months.
PITX said its passenger volume reached 32.45 million for January to June on the back of new routes, particularly to Northern Luzon.
This brings PITX's cumulative passenger foot traffic to 271.67 million since it opened in 2018, reflecting its growing role in connecting passengers to more than 110 destinations across the country.
If it once again manages to serve more than 30 million passengers in the second half, the transport hub is poised to reach the 300-million milestone later this year.
"These milestones demonstrate the growing confidence of commuters and transport operators in PITX as the country's premier transport gateway," said PITX Chief Operating Officer Mohit Malhi in a statement.
PITX is currently handling around 180,000 passengers per day, connecting travelers to 32 in-city routes and 80 provincial routes. During the first half of the year, the terminal expanded its network to include routes to Laoag, Ilocos Norte; Lagangilang, Abra; and Sta. Ana, Cagayan.
Since 2018, PITX has recorded a total of 6.52 million departures from city and provincial buses, modern and traditional jeepneys, as well as taxis and ride-hailing services. PITX is also directly connected to the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) through a station.
"As passenger demand continues to grow, we remain committed to delivering a world-class transport experience while supporting the country's goals of improving mobility, strengthening regional connectivity, and driving inclusive economic growth,” Malhi said.
With PITX's continued success, Malhi said it further reinforces the vision of developer Megawide Construction Corp. in building transport-oriented developments.
Megawide is currently developing two landport projects—one in Baguio and another in Cavite—to build on the PITX model and further improve regional accessibility.
"As we expand our transport-oriented developments, we are committed to creating gateways that not only improve the commuting experience but also contribute to the long-term development of the communities they serve,” said Malhi.
PITX is operated by Megawide unit MWM Terminals Inc. under a 35-year build-transfer-operate contract with the government.
