A 53-year-old motorcycle taxi rider was arrested in Marikina City for allegedly repeatedly abusing his minor step-granddaughter over several years.

The suspect, identified by the Eastern Police District (EPD) as "Chokoy," was listed as the district's third most wanted person. He was arrested in Barangay Concepcion Uno on July 29 by virtue of warrants issued by the presiding judge of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 168, Marikina City.

Authorities said the suspect is facing five counts of statutory rape, five counts of sexual assault, and one count of acts of lasciviousness.

In an interview with the Manila Bulletin, Marikina City Police Station chief Col. Jenny Tecson said the abuse began in 2021, when the victim was 10 years old, and recurred from 2024 to 2025.

Tecson said the suspect, who was the live-in partner of the victim's grandmother, allegedly sexually abused the victim in 11 separate incidents.

The first two incidents occurred in 2021, although the victim could no longer recall the exact month. The third incident took place in August 2021 at the rented house of the victim's aunt, where they were staying.

She said another incident allegedly occurred in May 2024. Four more incidents allegedly occurred in September, October, and November 2024, and in January 2025 in Barangay Concepcion Uno, where the victim had since relocated.

The last three incidents allegedly occurred in June, July, and August 2025.

“Ito po ay nangyayari sa umaga, kumabaga hindi po siya sa gabi nangyayari. Nangyayari po ito ‘pag walang kasama 'yung ating biktima dahil pumapasok nga rin po ang kaniyang tiyahin (The incidents usually occurred in the morning rather than at night. They allegedly happened whenever the victim was left alone because her aunt had gone to work)," Tecson said.

She added that the suspect allegedly lured the victim by buying her food, including ice cream, whenever she asked for it. In exchange, the suspect allegedly touched the victim's private parts.

The chief added that whenever the victim wanted to play games on a cellphone, the suspect would let her use his device, but would allegedly rape her in return.

The victim allegedly did not report the abuse out of fear.

The abuse was discovered in 2025 after the victim's aunt noticed changes in her physical appearance. Suspecting that she was pregnant, the aunt gave her a pregnancy test kit, which showed a positive result.

“Para po ito ay ma-confirm, dinala po siya ng kaniyang tiyahin sa isang center para mapa-check up nga po ito at ayun nga po, nag positibo nga po na nagdadalang-tao po yung ating biktima (To confirm the pregnancy, the victim's aunt brought her to a health center for a medical examination, where it was confirmed that the victim was pregnant),” Tecson said.

The aunt immediately informed her mother, who is the victim's grandmother, about the alleged abuse.

The family then spoke with the victim, who disclosed what had happened. The grandmother later informed the victim's father, prompting the family to file charges against the suspect.

The victim later gave birth in September 2025, police said.

The suspect is currently detained at the Marikina Police custodial facility.
