'Ceasefire my foot!': Lacson rejects peace proposal amid Taguig infra probe

Senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson on Thursday, July 30, dismissed what he described as an attempt to broker a "ceasefire" following his allegations of irregularities in infrastructure projects in Taguig City, the political stronghold of former Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano.

In a post on X, Lacson said any offer of a truce from the opposing camp was insincere, arguing that it came only after he had presented evidence supporting his allegations.
Lacson described the supposed peace overture as "hypocrisy aimed at buying time to recover and reconsolidate for his next sneaky move."
"CEASEFIRE MY FOOT! Anong uri ng tao ang magde-declare ng giyera, toy gun ang dala, at laway ang bala; pag na-confront ng bomba, magre-request ng ceasefire, pabulong pa?" he wrote.
"(Ceasefire my foot! What kind of man declares war, armed with a toy gun and with just his saliva as ammunition, then uses intermediaries to ask for a ceasefire when confronted by real bombs?)"
The statement came after Lacson said he had uncovered what he called "damning evidence" of double billing and other alleged irregularities involving slope protection and other infrastructure projects in Taguig City.
According to Lacson, he and his team have already turned over the evidence to the Office of the Ombudsman and plan to disclose additional details during an upcoming Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing on alleged anomalies in flood control projects.
The dispute between Lacson and Cayetano escalated after the senator accused the former Senate president of questioning the legitimacy of his increased net worth.
Lacson previously said he would defend his integrity "all out," maintaining that the growth in his wealth came from legitimate business ventures during the three years he was out of the Senate. He also stressed that integrity remains his most valuable possession, saying it was a value he inherited from his parents.
