Boy, 12, held for bringing gun to school in Basilan

ZAMBOANGA CITY – A 12-year-old boy is under police custody for allegedly bringing a firearm inside the Geras Integrated School in Barangay Sumagdang, Isabela City, Basilan on Wednesday, July 29.

The gun was allegedly stolen from a car wash in Basilan.

School administrators and teachers acted promptly to prevent the incident from escalating. They called the Isabela City police station which took the boy into custody.

Police said the boy's 15-year-old brother threatened the school principal and teachers for reporting the incident.

The identities of the boy and his brother were withheld for being children in conflict with the law.

Authorities have coordinated with the child's parents and the Department of Social Welfare and Development to ensure the proper disposition of the incident.

Police are investigating how the gun ended up in the boy's possession.
