Steve Lacy interview sparks 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' spoiler fears as film opens in PH

As "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" opens in Philippine cinemas, fans are urging moviegoers to avoid sharing spoilers online after a viral red carpet interview involving Filipino-American singer Steve Lacy sparked widespread speculation about the film.

The latest "Spider-Man" installment continues Peter Parker's story following the events of "Spider-Man: No Way Home," with Tom Holland reprising his role as the web-slinger alongside Zendaya and Jacob Batalon. The film also introduces Sadie Sink to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a closely guarded role that has fueled months of fan speculation ahead of its release.

Lacy attended the Los Angeles premiere because his song "Oh Yeah?" is featured on the film's soundtrack. During a red carpet interview, he was asked which character he was most excited to see while avoiding spoilers.

Instead, Lacy replied, "Jean. I like Jean. She's the villain, but there's a reason to her madness."

The interviewer immediately asked whether he had just spoiled the movie, prompting Lacy to quickly backtrack.

"I like her. I like her character. I don't know why," he said.

Although Lacy did not identify an actor or confirm any plot details, the clip quickly went viral, with many Marvel fans joking that he had "pulled a Tom Holland on Tom Holland's movie," a nod to the "Spider-Man" star's long-running reputation for accidentally revealing Marvel secrets during interviews.

The exchange also fueled online speculation surrounding Sadie Sink's mystery character, one of the film's most closely guarded secrets. However, neither Marvel Studios nor anyone involved with the production has confirmed the accuracy of Lacy's remarks.

As discussion around the interview spread online, many fans shifted the conversation toward spoiler etiquette as "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" officially arrived in Philippine theaters.

Across X, Facebook and TikTok, Filipino moviegoers called on fellow fans to avoid posting major plot twists or surprise cameos during the film's opening weekend. Many pointed out that not everyone can watch the movie on its first day, urging audiences to give others the chance to experience its biggest moments without having them revealed on social media.

For many fans, the message was simple: keep discussions spoiler-free for now and save detailed conversations until more people have had the opportunity to see the film.
