Public warned vs sharing viral Iloilo Esplanade sex video

ILOILO CITY – Authorities warned the public of legal consequences from sharing the viral video online of two students allegedly having sex at the Iloilo Esplanade river park here.

The Iloilo City Police (ICPO) and the Iloilo City government said netizens can be charged for violating the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009 and the Data Privacy Act of 2012.

The male and female student are reportedly minors. Spreading the video would also violate the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children Act.

“The ICPO appeals to the public to refrain from sharing, reposting, or circulating the video, as such actions may further compromise the privacy, dignity, and welfare of the individuals involved, especially if minors are concerned,” said the ICPO in a statement.

ICPO Police Station 8 and the ICPO Cybercrime Response Team are tracking down who took the video and the uploader.

ICPO chief Police Col. Wilbert Parilla urged parents and guardians to step in.

"Choices have consequences. We remind everyone, especially the youth, that every action—whether done in private or in public—may affect their future. We call on parents, guardians, and the entire community to work together in guiding our young people toward making responsible decisions,” added Parilla.

The Iloilo Media-Citizen Council (IMCC) and the National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) reminded media outlets to report the subject with sensitivity.
