Peeping Tom in Pasig: Man held for filming co-tenant in bath

A 39-year-old man was arrested after allegedly secretly recording his female co-tenant while she was bathing inside her rented unit in Pasig City.
Authorities said the incident occurred at around 11 p.m. on July 27 inside a residential compound in Barangay Manggahan, where the suspect and the victim were both renting rooms. The suspect was the only male tenant residing on the second floor.
Based on the investigation, the 22-year-old victim was taking a bath inside the comfort room of her rented unit when she noticed a dark‑colored mobile phone allegedly protruding through a small opening in the ceiling. She said that its camera allegedly pointed directly at her.
Police said the victim recognized the device as similar to the one owned by her male co‑tenant, prompting her to immediately rush out and go to the man's unit.
The victim repeatedly called him, but the suspect refused to open his door. It prompted the landlord to seek help from the Barangay Manggahan Barangay Security Force (BSF).
Responding officers confronted the suspect and recovered the cellphone from his possession. The victim identified it as the same device she had seen.
The victim was assisted by the Barangay VAW Desk Officer and referred to the Women and Children Protection Desk (WCPD) of the Pasig City Police Station for further investigation and filing of appropriate complaints.
The suspect remains in police custody pending the filing of formal complaints before the Pasig City Prosecutor's Office for alleged violation of Section 4(a) of Republic Act No. 9995, or the Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Maj. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin said the incident serves as a reminder that those who violate another person's privacy will be held accountable under the law.
“Privacy is a right, not a privilege,” he said.
“This incident demonstrates the power of swift, collective action—from the victim’s courage in reporting, to the responsiveness of our community and law enforcement partners, resulting in the suspect’s immediate apprehension,” he added.
