Palace warns public vs gov't projects scams

The Office of the Executive Secretary (OES) has warned the public against individuals and groups falsely presenting themselves as authorized representatives of government programs under the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) and the Socio-Civic Projects Fund (SCPF).

In an advisory issued on Tuesday evening, July 28, the OES said it had received reports of individuals spreading false information and impersonating official representatives of the two funding programs.

Among the reported schemes were the illegal collection of money in exchange for the supposed approval or release of government funds, the conduct of fake meetings promising appointments, the unauthorized use of official program logos, and the illegal collection of personal information to deceive the public.

The OES urged the public and local government officials to remain vigilant and verify information only through their respective local chief executives or the office's authorized channels.

"Pinapaalalahanan ang publiko at ang lahat ng opisyal ng lokal na pamahalaan na manatiling mapagmatyag (The public and all local government officials are reminded to remain vigilant),” it said.

“Tiyaking beripikado ang anumang impormasyon sa pamamagitan lamang ng inyong Local Chief Executive o ng aming opisyal at awtorisadong tanggapan (Verify any information only through your Local Chief Executive or our official and authorized offices),” it added.

The office also warned that it would pursue legal action against those responsible for the alleged fraudulent activities.

"Hindi kami mag-aatubiling magsampa ng kaukulang kasong legal laban sa sinumang mapatutunayang sangkot sa mga mapanlinlang na gawaing ito (We will not hesitate to file appropriate legal charges against anyone found to be involved in these fraudulent activities),” it said.

The OES also clarified that reports circulating about an alleged meeting of barangay chairpersons in Albay were among the reported scam incidents.

"Tandaan na WALANG opisyal na pagpupulong na ipinatawag kaugnay nito (Take note that NO official meeting has been called in relation to this),” it said.

The Local Government Support Fund is a national government assistance program that provides funding to local government units for priority infrastructure, development, and capacity-building projects. The Socio-Civic Projects Fund, meanwhile, supports community-based initiatives and other socio-civic programs identified by the national government.
