Staying at a hotel is about comfort, service, and a chance to unwind, but the experience becomes even more meaningful when you know your stay supports something beyond hospitality. As sustainability becomes a bigger consideration for travelers, more hotels are combining quality guest experiences with environmental and community initiatives. The Westin Manila is one of them, recently receiving Green Globe re-certification for its sustainable management and operations..
Located in the Ortigas business district, the Michelin Guide-recognized, five-star hotel has integrated sustainability into its operations since opening in 2023. A dedicated Green Team, with representatives from every department, oversees initiatives focused on conserving resources and reducing waste. The hotel reuses rainwater and air-conditioning condensate, monitors water use, and promotes conservation across its operations. Energy-saving measures include motion-sensor lighting, hallway timers, and regular audits, while a partnership with the ABS-CBN Foundation supports the proper recycling of batteries, used oil, and electronic waste.

The hotel's sustainability efforts also extend to its dining programs, where responsible sourcing and waste reduction are part of daily operations. Its chefs prepare dishes to order through the One Dish Wonders interactive buffet station to help reduce excess food production, while the Green Mondays initiative highlights plant-based meals and supports local chefs, farmers, and food producers. Beyond its restaurants, the hotel has also partnered with Scholars of Sustenance Philippines through its Serve Kindness recipe book, with proceeds supporting community feeding programs.
Beyond environmental initiatives, The Westin Manila also promotes wellness through programs that encourage healthier lifestyles. Its Wellness Weekend series brings together experts for sessions on movement, mindfulness, and overall well-being, while the quarterly Wellness Market showcases local brands offering fitness products, nutritious food, gut-friendly beverages, and sustainable everyday goods.

The hotel's commitment also extends to the community through volunteer and fundraising efforts. Team members take part in the annual Road to Give charity run, which supports Save the Children Philippines, and join Brigada Eskwela activities by helping prepare public schools for the new school year through classroom cleanups, repainting, and donation drives.
As travelers become more mindful of their choices, sustainability is becoming an important part of the hotel experience. Through its environmental practices, wellness programs, and community initiatives, The Westin Manila shows how hotels can provide quality hospitality while reducing their impact and supporting the people and communities around them.
