2026 Korean Film Festival in PH to feature screenings, student competition

The Korean Cultural Center (KCC) in the Philippines has launched the 2026 Korean Film Festival, which will feature film screenings, a student short film competition and events on Korean webtoons.

The festival, themed "K-Story: Stories that Move Us," includes three main activities scheduled from August to October.

The Student Short Film Competition, held from Jan. 12 to June 30, received 43 entries from Filipino student filmmakers under the theme "Kwentong Korea." The short film "When Love Met a Language" won the top prize, with its creators set to attend the 2026 Busan International Film Festival in South Korea in October.

As part of the festival, Korean webtoon artist Lee Younchang and Filipino graphic novelist Arnold Arre will take part in a talkback session on Aug. 6 at the Cinematheque Centre Manila. Lee will also conduct a webtoon workshop at the Metropolitan Museum of Manila on Aug. 7.

The festival's film screenings will run from Aug. 7 to 9 at SM Cinema branches in SM Mall of Asia, SM North EDSA, SM City Iloilo and SM Lanang.

The lineup includes the Korean films "Your Letter," "Love in the Big City," "My Daughter is a Zombie," "Omniscient Reader" and "Yumi's Cells: The Movie."
