A barangay in Taguig has installed a protective metal barrier over a hole leading to a creek following the death of a seven-year-old boy who was swept away by the current and drowned.

The boy, a Grade 3 pupil and resident of Barangay North Signal Village, Taguig, had jumped into the creek to retrieve his slippers.

He was carried off by the current and did not resurface. Authorities found his body in the creek in Barangay Ususan on the morning of July 28.

Barangay North Signal Village has since placed a metal grill over a hole in the riprap along Acacia Street.

“Upang matiyak na hindi na muling mauulit ang ganitong malagim na aksidente, agad na nilagyan ng matibay na harang at proteksyon ang butas sa riprap sa may creek ng Acacia Street (To ensure that such a tragic accident will not happen again, a strong barrier and protection was immediately installed at the riprap hole along the creek of Acacia Street),” the barangay said in a Facebook post on July 28.

The barangay mourned the boy’s death and reminded residents to exercise extreme caution, especially during the rainy season.
