DAVAO CITY – The city government is leveraging new culinary investments to bolster Davao City's expanding tourism sector and diversify its dining scene.
Department of Tourism-11 Regional Director Tanya Rabat-Tan highlighted the launch of The Wild Tree at Azuela Cove in Lanang on Tuesday, July 28, as a key addition that reinforces the city's position as a cultural and gastronomic melting pot.
Tan noted that the restaurant provides distinct Thai and Filipino menus rather than a fusion concept, offering greater flexibility for dining groups with varied preferences.
She said the establishment arrives as the local tourism office actively develops new initiatives, including a city-wide gastronomy tour to showcase regional culinary diversity.
"Through events and partnerships, tourism stakeholders are working with the city to bring in more visitors, encourage longer stays, and provide travelers with a wider range of experiences," Tan said.
She added that direct air connectivity to domestic and international hubs – including routes linked to Thailand –enhances the appeal of specialized international dining options for both foreign visitors and local patrons.
Executive Chef Diane Mae Capino outlined the establishment's approach to introducing traditional Thai flavors to local palates.
Capino explained that Thai culinary tradition relies heavily on fresh, aromatic herbs. To maintain freshness, she said, the restaurant supplies its kitchen directly from its own farm.
Addressing local taste preferences, Capino revealed that early customer feedback led the kitchen to recalibrate its heat spectrum.
Capino said the kitchen now offers customizable spice tiers, allowing patrons to request mild, non-spicy, or authentic Thai heat levels, as well as dietary modifications for food allergies.
The restaurant's opening menu features starters such as beef satay, tom yum goong soup, steamed salmon, spicy pork bone soup, and crab curry made with a premium crab variety.
According to tourism stakeholders, the growing number of food and beverage businesses in Davao City is boosting local businesses, attracting investment, and making the city a more attractive leisure destination.
