Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said the city government is prepared to deliver concrete results following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA), which highlighted the role of local governments in national development.

In a statement issued after the address, Domagoso said the President’s emphasis on empowering local government units (LGUs) reflects the need for stronger local-level governance.

“Ang kumpiyansa ng Pangulo sa lokal na pamahalaan ay pananagutan naming suklian ng resulta, hindi ng pangako (The President’s confidence in local government is a responsibility we must repay with results, not promises),” he said.

The mayor said Manila will continue focusing on key services such as maintaining cleanliness and order, improving healthcare and education, strengthening peace and order, and modernizing infrastructure, while ensuring that public funds are used efficiently and transparently.

Domagoso also pointed to SONA priorities that directly affect LGUs, including increased National Tax Allotment, stronger financial and administrative capacity, improved coordination with national agencies, and greater responsibility in delivering public services and development programs.

He likewise welcomed the administration’s move to address inefficiencies in electricity billing, saying reforms that promote transparency and fairness in the power sector would help ease costs for households.

“Less politics, more performance; less rhetoric, more action,” Domagoso said, adding that closer coordination between national and local governments would help strengthen both Manila and the country.
