ILOILO CITY — The top three officials here lauded the State-of-the-Nation Address of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday.
“I am giving PBBM a passing grade, but much has to be done,” said lone district Rep. Julienne “Jamjam” Baronda, who once again was able to get a selfie with the President during the SONA.
Baronda welcomed the President’s move to grant tax relief for people earning P350,000 and below annually, remove systems loss charges from electricity bills, and revisit the nuclear energy program, especially as the Visayas grid has an energy deficiency.
“I agree that the flood control scandal must come to an end and all those responsible should be given their day in court and the people's money be returned,” Baronda said.
Baronda vowed to support the administration in dealing with the socio-economic impact from the high cost of fuel due to the escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Mayor Raisa Treñas thanked the President for giving trust and confidence to local government units (LGUs).
Treñas said Iloilo City is one of the pilot sites for the Oplan Kontra Baha program, a livelihood program under the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
Vice Mayor Lady Julie Grace “LoveLove” Baronda also attended the SONA.
“He made one thing clear: Accountability and genuine public service are the bedrock of national progress,” said Vice Mayor Baronda.
She vowed that the Iloilo City Council, of which she is the presiding officer, will translate the priorities of the national government with pertinent local legislation.
