A day after his fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA), President Marcos visited areas in Davao Region to distribute aid and inspect housing projects and an earthquake-hit hospital.

One of Marcos' agenda in the region was to visit the People’s Ville, a condominium-type housing, located in Barangay Riverside, Calinan District, in Davao City.

During his visit, he vowed to build 42 more housing buildings like the People's Ville. All 42 buildings will be completed by the end of 2027, Marcos said.

“Kasi ang ginagawa natin ngayon, hindi lang tayo gumagawa ng bahay, gumagawa tayo ng community na kumpleto na lahat. Dahil mahirap tirahan kung wala naman pupuntahan yung mga bata, walang malapit na palengke, hindi malapit sa trabaho (What we're doing now is not just building houses, we're building complete communities. Because it's difficult to live in a place where children have nowhere to go, there's no nearby market, and it's not close to people's workplaces),” Marcos said.

“Yun ang mga titignan natin, hindi lang yung pagpatayo ng bahay (Those are the things we'll be looking at—not just building houses). We'll be continuing. Matatapos natin 'yan (We'll be able to finish that) by the end of next year, lahat ng 42 na buildings (all 42 buildings),” Marcos vowed.

Meanwhile, the President ordered Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon to check on the flooded areas.

“One more thing: I've asked Secretary Vince Dizon of the Department of Public Works and Highways to study the situation, and he will stay here. He will inspect all the flood-affected areas in the southern portion because it turns out there has been a master plan in place since 2023. For whatever reason, some of the projects under that plan were never carried out. So we'll revisit them and make sure the master plan is completed, so that we won't see flooding like what we experienced recently,” Marcos said.

Several families in Davao City still have no homes, and others need safe, orderly, and affordable housing, according to the President.

He added that among the reasons several families still lack housing are population increase and the need to relocate people to safer housing communities and out of danger zones.

One objective of the government in establishing housing in Davao City is to reduce the housing backlog and address future housing demand, particularly from displaced and vulnerable families, and to develop sustainable and inclusive communities that improve quality of life.

People’s Ville is one of the housing projects under the Expanded 4PH Program.

At present, the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) has finished 26 buildings with a total of 2,600 housing units.

Before visiting People's Ville, Marcos first went to Davao de Oro to lead the distribution of government assistance to beneficiaries from the provinces of Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, and Davao Occidental.

During the event, the Chief Executive led the distribution of nearly P133 million worth of agricultural machinery, farm inputs, and fisheries assistance, which benefited around 9,708 farmers and fisherfolk in Davao de Oro.

The President also witnessed the sale of about 14,000 kilos of affordable rice under the government’s “Benteng Bigas, Meron Na!” initiative.

Marcos then led the ceremonial turnover of P113 million in Socio-Civic Projects Fund (SCPF) assistance for 565 barangays in the three Davao provinces to support priority community development projects.

The assistance includes P47.4 million for Davao de Oro, P44.6 million for Davao del Norte, and P21 million for Davao Occidental.

Under the SCPF, each barangay receives P200,000 in assistance—P100,000 for priority community projects and P100,000 to support five Presidential Scholars with P20,000 each.

The government also distributed financial assistance under the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program, with 4,085 beneficiaries receiving P3,000 each.

Since its launch, the Bawat Bayan Makikinabang program has extended SCPF assistance to 36,979 barangays nationwide.

The President also inspected the upgraded facilities of the Davao de Oro Provincial Hospital–Montevista, which sustained damage during the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Mindanao on June 8.

The hospital serves as the primary referral hospital for residents of Montevista, Monkayo, Compostela, New Bataan, Maragusan, Laak, and nearby municipalities.

Malacañang said the government aims to upgrade the hospital from a Level 1 to a Level 2 facility by 2027.
