Asian pop singer-songwriter Shi Shi is turning life's sweetest and most bittersweet moments into music with her latest EP, "The Taste Of," a multilingual collection of songs in English, Mandarin and Korean that chronicles heartbreak, healing, and emotional growth. Although the EP's striking promotional images lean into a sensual aesthetic, Shi Shi said the music tells a much more vulnerable story. 

During a virtual media interview, the singer explained that the visual contrast was intentional, reflecting the emotional journey she experienced while creating the record over the past two years.

"'The Taste Of' includes different emotions," Shi Shi shared. "These two years have been quite up and down for me. Some parts were very down because of heartbreak, while other moments were happier. That's the contrast I wanted to show."

She described the project as an exploration of life's "bitterness and sweetness," with every song representing a different emotional flavor. While the visuals may initially suggest confidence and seduction, Shi Shi said the lyrics instead reveal innocence, nostalgia, vulnerability, and the process of finding peace after difficult experiences.

Asked whether the concept originated from her own vision or was developed alongside her creative team, Shi Shi said "The Taste Of" is a collaborative effort. Her staff witnessed the emotional highs and lows she experienced throughout the recording process, helping transform those real-life moments into the EP's central concept.

Away from music, Shi Shi recently fulfilled another longtime dream. She has opened her own bar, which has since become an extension of her artistry. Rather than treating the venue as a separate business, she has woven the EP directly into its menu, creating signature cocktails and desserts inspired by the songs themselves.

One of the standout creations is a cocktail inspired by the track "Never Care," featuring red wine, chocolate, and edible artwork based on Shi Shi's own illustrations.

"I wanted people to experience the music beyond just listening," Shi Shi explained, saying she enjoys watching visitors discover the stories behind each drink and treat. For her, the bar has become an immersive creative space where music, food, conversation, and community come together.

Beyond sharing her own experiences, Shi Shi hopes the EP becomes a comforting soundtrack for listeners, whether they're commuting, relaxing at home, or searching for a quiet moment amid their busy lives. "I just love to sing," she said. "There's a lot of people listening to my music, so I cannot stop. I want to make more music for them to listen to."

Before ending the press conference, Shi Shi also expressed her hope of finally bringing "The Taste Of" to the Philippines as part of her ongoing tour, saying she looks forward to meeting Filipino fans in person.
