The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) deployed 300 security personnel, including 10 K9-Explosive Ordnance Disposal (K9-EOD) teams, across Metro Manila on Monday, July 27, to strengthen security for the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Marcos Jr.
Unlike previous deployments focused on the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City, the PCG said its personnel were positioned across Metro Manila to support interagency security operations.
PCG spokesperson Commodore Noemie Cayabyab said the deployment was intended to augment security measures under the Presidential Security Command (PSC).
"The 300 PCG security personnel have been strategically deployed across Metro Manila to support interagency security and public safety operations," Cayabyab said.
Marcos is set to deliver his annual address before a joint session of Congress at the House of Representatives in Quezon City on Monday afternoon, where thousands of security personnel from different government agencies were mobilized to secure the venue and key areas.
The PCG said its 10 K9-EOD teams were assigned to assist the PSC in conducting explosive detection and security inspections before and during the event.
"The K9-EOD teams are augmenting the Presidential Security Command by conducting explosive detection and security inspections to help ensure the safe and orderly conduct of the President's annual address," Cayabyab said.
She added that the Coast Guard's K9 units were also operating the Under Vehicle Inspection System at the North and South Gates of the House of Representatives to inspect vehicles entering the SONA venue.
